Rio was the capital of Brazil, from the Portuguese colonial period until 1960, when the government's office was relocated to the newly constructed Brasilia. Trancoso is located on the so-called Discovery Coast, in the south of the state of Bahia and only 30 kilometres from Porto Seguro, which is its main access airport.
